Chennai Super Kings on Monday dealt with a major blow as their English all-rounder Moeen Ali suffered an ankle injury during a training session on Saturday.

The franchise is still to learn about the impact of the injury as it awaits the results of scans. Ali, however, is expected to miss out on at least a couple of matches for the defending champions.

The Chennai-franchise are scheduled to take on Punjab Kings later on Monday and will face SunRisers Hyderabad on May 1.

Moeen Ali was dropped by CSK for the MI clash

Ali was dropped by the Ravindra Jadeja-led side in their previous match against Mumbai Indians due to his inconsistent performance in a testing season. He was replaced by New Zealand spin-bowling allrounder Mitchell Santner.

The Englishman has had his fair share of struggles in the ongoing season of the lucrative tournament. He arrived at the scene after missing out on the opening contest due to a delayed visa to travel to India from the UK.

The all-rounder has been wicketless in the five matches he has featured in so far in the IPL 2022 and conceded 68 runs. He, moreover, looked out of touch with the bat as he has accumulated 87 runs at an average of 17.40 and the highest score of 48 against SunRisers Hyderabad.
