Punjab Kings captain Mayank Agarwal missed out on the match against SunRisers Hyderabad at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Sunday due to toe injury.

His opening partner and Team India compatriot Shikhar Dhawan stood in as the captain of the match. The last time Dhawan captained a team was in IPL 2014 when he led SRH against Punjab Kings.

Dhawan said that Agarwal picked up the injury but he should recover ahead of their next match. He made the only one forced change as Prabhsimran Singh replaced Agarwal in the match.

IPL 2022 PBKS vs SRH: SunRisers Hyderabad opt for unchanged side

The southpaw said that Punjab Kings are not dependent on individual performances and are trying to put out the best XI in the new-look side accumulated at the IPL mega auction.

“Mayank got hit on his toe, he should be fine for the next game. So, there’s just one change for us – Prabhsimran is in,” Dhawan said at the toss.

“We are performing well without depending on individuals – need to continue playing well as a unit, the bowling can get better, we’re working on it. The team is new and we’re taking time to settle. The toss could be an advantage, it’s a bit sticky, the ball could turn, but if we put up a good total, we can put them under pressure.”

SRH captain Kane Williamson won the toss and opted to field. He made no changes to his playing XI. The Hyderabad franchise have won three matches on the trot in IPL 2022.

“We will bowl first. It’s something we’ve done recently, we need to just play according to our plans. The wicket will hold up for the entire game, just need to make those small improvements, the signs are good, and need to adjust to the conditions early. Same team for us,” Williamson said.
