Madhya Pradesh medium-pacer Kuldeep Sen has found his footing in the Indian Premier League 2022, courtesy of his calm and composed approach in death overs for Rajasthan Royals.

With only a handful of first-class cricket experience, Sen knows how to maintain his line and length under pressure and put the opposition batter under pressure. His temperament has made him the heart of Rajasthan Royals’ death bowling and someone who Sanju Samson relies on.

Sen, 25, first broke into the light for defending 15 runs in the final over against Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2022. He was up against the in-form Australian hard-hitter Marcus Stoinis and conceded only 11 runs to salvage a close win for his franchise.

His stakes continued to grow as he picked up a four-wicket haul against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2022 clash on Tuesday. It is also notable that Sen hardly leaks runs while being amongst wickets.

So who is Sen and what do we know about his journey?

Overcame financial issues

Sen, hails from Hariharpur in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district, where his father Rampal Sen runs a small salon. And coming from a lower-middle class family he faced financial complications. His coach Aril Anthony and Indian cricketer Ishwar Pandey, however, came to his rescue.

When he started playing cricket at the age of eight, the local coaches recognised his talent and waived off his academy coaching fees. He was, also, helped on by India cricketer Ishwar Pandey in a situation where he could hardly afford his own shoes after impressing in the U-16 trials for the state team.

Pace and high-arm release among his assets

Sen is tall and quick, In fact, when he made his first-class debut in 2018, he bowled at 146.5 kmph and was awarded the fastest delivery of the match.

His strengths also include bowling fuller length which is supported by a tall frame and the high-arm release which helps him to bowl outswing deliveries at a raw pace. He can also bowl inswinging deliveries and wide yorkers which has helped him to become a reliable bowler at death.
