As the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) approaches its business end, there were several outstanding individual and team performances. The table looks rather surprising as well with the debutants Gujarat Titans (GT) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) firmly placed at the top of the table while two of the most successful teams in the IPL, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI), languish at the bottom. The season saw some surprising performances from the players as well. Popular names like Jos Buttler and KL Rahul is at the top of the highest run getter while Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav is at the top of the ‘Purple Cap’ list. Among these, some players have really turned out to be surprise heroes for their teams.

Abhishek Sharma

The 21-year-old left-handed batsman of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has placed himself in the league of big fishes with sensational performances. He has been one of the key performers for the Hyderabad side by scoring 331 runs at an impressive strike rate of 134. Abhishek consistently delivered for SRH and has two half-centuries in this season. The explosive opener’s performance in the upcoming matches could determine SRH’s playoff chances.

Umesh Yadav

Kolkata Knights Riders availed the services of Umesh Yadav at INR 2 crores which was his base price at the IPL 2022 mega auction. The pacer’s performance in the IPL 2022 season was worth much more than that. He spearheaded KKR’s bowling attack and is right up there among the top wicket takers of the season by taking 15 wickets. Apart from taking wickets, he has also maintained a very healthy economy thereby helping the Kolkata side in more ways than one. In a rather underwhelming season for KKR, Umesh has been one of their brightest stars.

Umran Malik

Umran Malik has been breathing fire for SRH in the ongoing season with his fiery bowling spells. The 22-year-old fast bowler from Jammu and Kashmir has taken 15 wickets at an economy of 8.92 in 10 matches. It’s not just the wickets that make Umran special but his raw pace which is a fearsome sight for any batsmen. A wicket taking Indian pacer that can constantly bowl above 150 kmph is definitely one for the future. He recently broke his own record by bowling at 157 kmph in the match against Delhi Capitals (DC) which has got the pundits talking about him.

Kuldeep Yadav

The left-arm wristspinner Kuldeep Yadav has been in sensational form for DC in the IPL 2022 season and is currently placed at the second spot in highest wicket takers’ list. He has taken 18 wickets so far, just one behind the leading wicket taker Yuzvendra Chahal. DC signed him for INR 2 crores, which now looks like a steal. He had a rough couple of years as he struggled to get chances but seems to have finally found the perfect side to showcase his talent.
