IPL 2022 CSK vs PBKS: All-round Liam Livingstone headlines Punjab Kings' 54-run victory

England all-rounder Liam Livingstone was terrific with the bat and ball for PBKS in their morale-boosting victory over CSK in the IPL 2022 contest on Sunday.

All-round Liam Livingstone shone with the bat and ball for PBKS to bundle out CSK to 126 and clinch victory by 54 runs at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday. 

Chasing a below-par target of 181 runs, CSK lost their top-order, Robin Uthappa (13), Ruturaj Gaikwad (1), Moeen Ali (0), Ambati Rayudu (13), Ravindra Jadeja (0) in quick succession to to keep the side reeling at 36/5.

Shivam Dube puts up a valiant effort 

However, unperturbed by the early bowls, Shivam Dube (57) executed a valiant effort as CSK hung by a thread in the chase. He was well complimented by former CSK captain MS Dhoni (23) who played a cautious knock and guided Dube with vital tips in the middle.

The duo forged a crucial partnership of 62 runs before Dube’s 30-ball cameo came to an end. He hit six boundaries and three massive sixes in his stay while Dhoni hit one boundary and as many six in his 28-ball knock. 

Later, the CSK lower-order, failed to add much to the tally with PBKS bowlers running through them. 

Rahul Chahar shows his brilliance 

PBKS leg spinner Rahul Chahar was the pick of the bowlers for his side as he returned figures of 3/25 while Livingstone and Vaibhav Arora scalped two wickets each.

Liam Livingstone announces himself at IPL 

Earlier, asked to bat, PBKS lost their opener and captain Mayank Agarwal (4), cheaply. But his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan (33) continued to take responsibility for the side with his important cameo. He, however, failed to get support from Bhanuka Rajapaksa (9) as he was run-out after a horrible mix-up. 

Despite the dismissal, Dhawan, continued to maneuver the innings and was well complimented by England T20 specialist Liam Livingstone (60). The duo-forged a 95-run third wicket stand for PBKS to set the tempo of the match before the southpaw was dismissed after his 24-ball stay which included three boundaries and one hit over the fence. 

Livingstone looked in good form as he anchored the innings to reach to his half-century. He hit five boundaries and as many sixes in the suitable condition in his 32-ball quick fire cameo to announce himself in the lucrative tournament. 

PBKS debutant Jitesh Sharma also gave a good account of himself as he scored 26 runs off 17 deliveries with three sixes. 

Lower-order batters Shah Rukh Khan (6) and Odean Smith, meanwhile, disappointed with their performances while Kagiso Rabada and Rahul Chahar added 12 runs each to the team total. 

Chris Jordan shines with the ball

Jordan was the pick of the bowlers for CSK as he returned figures of 2/23. His compatriot Dwaine Pretorius also scalped two wickets but gave away 30 runs from his stipulated overs.
