Jos Buttler is arguably the best T20 opener and he has made his presence felt in some style in the IPL 2022. Buttler has accumulated 491 runs from seven matches for Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing season at an average of 81.83.

His batting prowess has largely helped the Rajasthan franchise win four out of their six matches and continues to play an important role in their bid to qualify for the IPL 2022 playoffs.

The Englishman has notably scored three centuries and two half-centuries to continue maintaining his purple patch with the highest score of 116 runs which he notched up against Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday (April 22). His two other centuries — 103 vs Kolkata Knight Riders and 100 vs Mumbai Indians — came in a winning cause as he has batted at a phenomenal strike rate of 161.51.

His fine run has also put former India and Royal Challenger Bangalore captain Virat Kohli’s record haul of 973 runs in a season under serious threat with the orange cap holder looking in fine touch to surpass that figure.

IPL: Virat Kohli’s record haul in 2016

Former India and RCB captain Virat Kohli might not be at his best form currently but there is hardly any doubt that he breaks records for fun when he is in rhythm. Kohli has set remarkable standards for himself. He is a fierce competitor on the field who hardly gives an inch.

One of his most memorable outings and substantial flow of runs came in IPL 2016, when he accumulated 973 runs under his belt, to record the highest runs scored by a player in one IPL season.

His tally was laced with four centuries — (100 not out vs Gujarat Lions), (108 not out vs Rising Pune Supergiant), (109 vs Gujarat Lions), (113 vs Kings XI Punjab) — and seven half-centuries. He batted at an average of a staggering 81.08 with a strike rate of 152.03. He also accumulated 83 boundaries and 38 sixes in the season.
