Delhi Capitals have faced a huge blow ahead of their next game against Punjab Kings in IPL 2022 at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium later this evening. After Mitchell Marsh, another overseas player, Tim Seifert has tested positive for COVID-19. And, this has put a question mark over their team selection for the upcoming match. The positive result came after the fourth round of RT-PCR tests that were conducted on Wednesday morning as well.

Meanwhile, it can be guessed that the organisers have kept open the option of rescheduling the match as well, which was shifted from Pune to Mumbai on Tuesday. Moreover, the IPL has also asked the Delhi Capitals contingent to conduct another round of tests on the franchise’s personnel ahead of the game, and then the final call will be taken on Wednesday’s match as well.

Earlier, Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh was hospitalised after having tested positive for COVID-19 in a second RT-PCR test. Along with him, two support staff, caused fear and panic among the rest of the Delhi Capitals squad on Monday as well.

“Delhi Capitals all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has tested positive for COVID-19, following which he has been admitted to a hospital. The Delhi Capitals medical team is closely monitoring Marsh’s condition,” the IPL franchise said in a release.

“A few more members from the Delhi Capitals bio-bubble, including support staff members, have returned positive tests as well. Though they are all asymptomatic, their condition is being monitored closely by the franchise,” the release further stated earlier. “All remaining members of the bubble are currently in isolation in their respective rooms, and will be tested regularly.”

During the day, Mitchell Marsh had undergone two RT-PCR tests with the first one coming negative and the second returning positive as well. This happened after Marsh complained of a sore throat and mild fever.

“Mitchell Marsh’s RT-PCR first report has come negative. However the second RT-PCR report turned out to be positive. All other playing members have negative in RT-PCR tests. There is no threat to Wednesday’s match between DC and PBKS,” a senior BCCI official said on Monday as well.
