The South Africa men's hockey team won the 2022 African Cup of Nations earlier this year.
The Pakistan men’s hockey team will begin their 2022 Commonwealth Games campaign against South Africa. The men in green have not been in the best of form of late, failing to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics. Their most recent triumph came at the 2017 Asia Cup when they bagged the bronze medal. Since then, however, things have looked quite bleak. At the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy in Dhaka, Pakistan finished in fourth place, their worst ever performance in the competition. Now, led by Muhammad Umar Bhutta, the team will be looking to make a positive impact at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. The South African hockey team is not one of the powerhouses in international hockey either, but they had a decent performance at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations where they were crowned the champions.
