The 20-member Indian Women’s Hockey Team was announced by Hockey India on Tuesday for their tour of Germany and the 100th Anniversary International Tournament of the Spanish Hockey Federation in Spain. To prepare the team for the crucial Hangzhou Asian Games 2023, both competitions will be held. Three test matches, one against China and two against Germany will be played in Germany, featuring the Indian team from July 16 to July 19, 2023. After that, they will go on a tour of Spain where they will play in the 100th Anniversary Spanish Hockey Federation-International Tournament in Terrassa from July 25 to July 30 against teams from South Africa, England, and the hosts.

At the current National Coaching Camp at the SAI Centre in Bengaluru, the Indian team squad is made up of talented and committed individuals who have been honing their skills and pursuing excellence in every training session. Savita, the goalkeeper, serves as the team’s captain and will be ably supported by Deep Grace Ekka, the vice-captain. Additionally, Deep Grace Ekka, Nikki Pradhan, Ishika Chaudhary, Udita, and Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam were chosen as the defensive players for the tours. The second goalkeeper selected for the team is Bichu Devi Kharibam. Nisha, Monika, Salima Tete, Neha, Navneet Kaur, Sonika, Baljeet Kaur, Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke, and Jyoti Chhatri make up the team’s strong midfield lineup. The seasoned striker Vandana Katariya will lead India’s offensive line. Lalremsiami, Sangita Kumari, and Deepika will be present with her.

Chief Coach Janneke Schopman in an interview

Concerning the team’s selection, Chief Coach Janneke Schopman stated, “The tours to Spain and Germany will be fantastic opportunities for our team to continue our preparation for the Asian Games while once again showcasing their talent and skills on a global stage. Both tours will be a great opportunity for us to test ourselves against formidable opponents because the players are performing at a high level this camp and they have been working arduously to improve their game.”

“We’ll concentrate on upholding a strong sense of teamwork and carrying out our plans. We aim to play our own game and make use of the lessons from this camp and the previous tour. The tours will be crucial for us in regard to the upcoming Asian Games as they will provide us with insightful information and highlight areas where we can make improvements. She added, “We have to learn from every game in order to improve as a team.”
