The latest installment of “The Match” will take place next month in Florida, featuring legendary golfer Tiger Woods and World no. 01 Rory McIlroy against Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas, two top professional golfers. The 12-hole competition is scheduled to start from Belleair, Florida’s Pelican Golf Club on December 10, 2022, at 6 pm Eastern Time. Funds raised from the affair will go toward Hurricane Ian rescue operations. Woods is competing in his third edition of the series, while McIlroy, Thomas, and Spieth are making their debuts.

Woods won “The Match” alongside Peyton Manning in 2020, defeating Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady. However, he lost against Mickelson in the inaugural edition in 2018. In their combined careers, the four golfers have won 24 major titles. Other golfers who have competed in prior “The Match” competitions, including Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, and Brooks Koepka, have switched to LIV Golf. The PGA Tour’s most vocal opponent of LIV Golf this year has been McIlroy, and Woods has joined him in trying to maintain support for the traditional circuit.

Woods was involved in a life-threatening vehicle accident in February last year (2021). He had open leg fractures and injuries to his foot and ankle when he was released from the hospital in March. The 15-time major champion hasn’t competed since July when he missed the cut in The 150th Open at St Andrews.

Eldrick Woods, better known by his name Tiger Woods, was a dominant professional golfer in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He had one of the best amateur careers in the sport’s history.  One of the most famous tournaments in golf, the Masters Tournament, was won by Woods in 1997, making him the first golfer of African American or Asian origin to do so. With his triumph at the 2001 Masters, Woods became the first player to win all four major golf tournaments in a row: the Masters, the U.S. Open, the British Open (Open Championship), and the PGA Championship.

Following his victory at the CJ Cup in South Carolina, McIlroy reclaimed the top spot in the Official World Golf Rankings last month. He won the coveted FedEx Cup title earlier this year, and he also won the Tour Championship and the Canadian Open the previous year. After winning the PGA Championship for his second major championship in 2021–2022, Thomas is currently ranked seventh. Spieth, who earned a victory at the RBC Heritage this year, is currently ranked thirteenth. The duo who have been close friends for long guided the United States in winning the Presidents Cup 2022.
