Louis Oosthuizen is a South African golfer who is known for clinching the Open Championship in 2010. Besides this, he is known for his record of being the runner-up in all four major golf tournaments, including the Masters Tournament in 2012, both the 2015 and 2021 U.S. Open, the Open Championship in 2015, and the PGA Championship in 2017 and 2021. The January of 2013 saw him reach his career-best ranking of fourth in the world. Born in Mossel Bay, South Africa, Oosthuizen’s journey in golf began with several amateur wins which led him to turn professional at 19 in 2002. Before his European tour triumph, he claimed five titles on the Sunshine Tour, including wins at the 2004 Arabella Vodacom Origins of Golf Tour and the 2007 Dimension Data Pro-Am.

His professional career began on the European Challenge Tour in 2003, and by 2004, he was a European Tour regular. In 2009, he finished the season in the 31st position on the Race to Dubai. In March 2010 , he achieved his first European Tour victory at the Open de Andalucia de Golf. Following this, he won the 2010 Masters Par 3 Contest and entered the 2010 Open Championship ranked 54th. There, he was sensational as he recorded the second-lowest score ever at St Andrews and became the fourth South African to win the Claret Jug. Post his major win, he finished 10th on the Race to Dubai in 2010 and continued his success with his third European Tour win at the 2011 Africa Open.

In 2012, Louis Oosthuizen defended his Africa Open title and made headlines at the Masters Tournament with a rare albatross. He capped off the year with a top-10 world ranking and third place in the Race to Dubai. In January 2014, he went on to defend his Volvo Golf Champions title. He then achieved a joint runner-up finish at the Open Championship in 2015. In 2017, he added another runner-up finish at the PGA Championship to his resume. He claimed the South African Open victory in December 2018, an event that saw collaboration from the European, Sunshine, and Asian Tours.

Oosthuizen’s participation in the 2019 Presidents Cup in Australia saw his team narrowly lose to the U.S by 14-16. In 2021, he added another runner-up finish at the U.S. Open. His career took a turn in June 2022 when he joined the LIV Golf series and consequently resigned from the PGA Tour, leading to his suspension from the PGA Tour.
