ATK Mohun Bagan head coach Juan Ferrando was disappointed with his team’s performance in the 3-1 loss to Hyderabad FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) semi-final first leg fixture on Saturday. The Spanish tactician feels his team will “need to find solutions” for the second leg on Wednesday. Roy Krishna put the Mariners ahead inside the opening 18 minutes but goals from Bartholomew Ogbeche, Mohammad Yasir and Javier Siverio secured the comeback win for Hyderabad FC.

Ferrando was speaking to the media after the match and when asked about losing the match after taking the lead, the 41-year-old said: “I think I’m repeating but the team was tired, some injuries at the end and the substitutions were in relation to injuries. We changed the plan and then we made mistakes. We lost focus at the end. If you lose focus it leaves you open and gives great opportunities to Hyderabad FC.”

The Mariners had a great start to the match as they were clearly the dominant side in the first half-hour. But after the drinks break, Hyderabad boss Manuel Marquez changed their formation to 4-4-2 and after that, the Nizams slowly got back into the game.

In the 58th minute, Yasir drilled home from just outside the box to put Hyderabad in front. Meanwhile Tiri got himself injured while trying to block Yasir’s shot and was replaced with Hugo Boumous.

The Spanish defender is an important player for ATKMB and Ferrando will be hoping the 30-year-old retains his match-fitness before the second leg. When asked about the fitness of the squad, Ferrando said: “We will see, it’s difficult because we need a minimum of two-three days and then we’ll see what happens.”

Ogbeched headed home from Joa Victor’s assist to level the score on the stroke of half-time. It wasn’t a great piece of defending from ATKMB as Yasir’s corner kick wasn’t cleared properly and allowed Victor to put the ball back into the danger zone.

HFC sealed their win with Siverio’s goal on 64 minutes. Yasir’s corner kick from the right flank found an unmarked Siverio at the near post and the Spaniard placed his header perfectly into the bottom corner..

Once again it wasn’t great defending from the Mariners as they didn’t mark the goal scorer properly and it was easy for Siverio to make space for himself.  Ferrando added “In the first corner, they tried to make an offside but in the end that was not given. The second is two mistakes that resulted in the loss of possession.”
