Watford FC will host Bolton Wanderers in a pre-season friendly at Watford Football Club Training Ground on Tuesday. The hosts were relegated from the Premier League last season and would be hoping to continue their preparations for the upcoming Championship season with a positive result. Watford’s last match against Panathinaikos ended in a goalless draw. Meanwhile Bolton are heading into the tie on the back of a narrow 1-0 defeat to rivals Wigan Athletic last weekend.

The Hornets began their preparations for the 2022-23 campaign with a 3-1 loss to Cambridge United on July 2, before playing out a 0-0 draw against the Greek outfit in Austria. New head coach Rob Edwards is tasked with rebuilding the team for the future and getting them back to the top tier of English football. After the game against Bolton, the Hornets will play three more friendlies against Wycombe, Millwall and Southamptom before taking on Sheffield United in their opening match of 2022-23 Championship on August 1.
Bolton, on the other hand, began their preparation for the 2022-23 League One campaign with a thumping 9-0 win over amateur outfit Longbridge Town before defeating Chorley and then played out a 2-2 draw at Stockport. Meanwhile Bolton’s recent outing against Wigan Athletic ended in a 1-0 loss on Saturday. Ian Evatt’s side have been playing some positive football and with a little bit cutting edge in the final third, they could secure more positive results in the upcoming fixtures.

Watford are expected to rotate their squad in order to build team’s fitness and give game-time to the new recruits. Okoye and Vakoun Bayo, who joined the club this summer, could bear the bulk of the goal-scoring responsibilities. 20-year-old Joao Pedro is linely be a key player in the attacking department. As for Bolton, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Amadou Bakayoko could be rested after picking up knokes in the previous outings. B team striker Connor Stanley could feature on Tuesday.
