Valencia lost 2-1 to Villareal in their last league-match on December 31, despite taking the lead through Edinson Cavani, inside the opening 22 minutes. Los Che have struggled for consistency this season, winning five, drawing four and losing six of their 15 La Liga games. However, Gennaro Gatuso’s side will enter the contest off the back of a dominant win over Nucia to book a place in the last-16 stage of Copa del Rey on Tuesday night. Justin Kluivert, Ilaix Moriba and Hugo Duro were on the scoresheet in the Cup fixture. They will take on Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup on January 10.
Cadiz, on the other hand, were knocked out of the Copa del Rey by Real Union in the middle of November, so they have not been in action since sharing the spoils against Almeria in the league on December 30. The Pirates came from behind to earn a point against Almeria, courtesy of Lucas Perez’s 83rd-minute strike. Sergio Gonzalez’ side are the joint-lowest goal-scorers this season with just 10 scalps to their name.
Valencia’s on-loan Barcelona midfielder Nico Gonzalez is sidelined with a fractured foot, while goalkeeper Jaume Domenech is doubtful for Friday’s game. Veteran striker Cavani is expected to lead the line, with Castillejo and Lino in support. Musah, Moriba and Almeida could form the midfield-trio. As for Cadiz, Juan Cala, Victor Chusy, Joseba Zaldua, David Gil and Mamo Mbaye are nursing injuries. Alvaro Negredo and Anthony Lozamo are likely to form the attacking duo.
Valencia possible line-up: Mamardashvili, Correia, Comert, Diakhaby, Gaya, Musah, Moriba, Almeida, Castillejo, Cavani, Lino
Cadiz possible line-up: Ledesma, Carcelen, Hernandez, Fali, Espino, Alejo, Alcaraz, Alex, Ocampo, Lozano, Negredo
