Elche have drawn four and lost 11 of their 15 La Liga games this season. The team’s last league-win came against Getafe on the final weekend of the 2021-22 campaign, with the result helping them to finish 13th in the table, having pocketed 42 points from 38 games. Pablo Machin’s side lost their last outing against Ceuta, a lower division side in Spain, through Rodri’s lone goal on the stroke of half-time and got eliminated from the Copa del Rey. Prior to that, the Green Striped Ones lost 2-0 to Atletico Madrid in a La Liga game on December 29, courtesy of second half strikes from Joao Felix and Alvaro Morata.
Celta, on the other hand, shared the spoils against Sevilla in their last league-match on December 30. Gabri Viega put the Sky Blues in front inside the opening 33 minutes, before Kike Salas’ equaliser, nine minutes into the second half, helped Sevilla earn a point at Balaidos. After that, Los Celestes lost to Espanyol and got knocked out of the Copa del Rey. Carlos Carvalhal’s side have another three league games before the end of the month, facing Villarreal, Malorca and Athletic Bilbao ahead of the trip to Real Betis at the start of February.
