Uruguay will take on the USA in an international friendly at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City on Sunday. Both sides have booked their place in the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be held in Qatar later this year. On Wednesday, Uruguay thrashed Mexico 3-0 in Arizona to kickstart their set of friendlies in June. Meanwhile USA also had an impressive outing, getting the better of Morocco with the same scoreline. Both sides have brilliant players in their ranks and will need to step up the game this weekend. La Celeste’s form this year has been stunning, winning all five games while USMNT has tasted defeat only once in seven outings.

USA started their preparations for the World Cup with a dominant victory against the African side Morocco. Brenden Aaronson opened the scoring mid-way through the first half before Timothy Weah doubled the lead two minutes after the half-hour mark. And then, in the 64th minute, Haji Wright converted the spot kick to seal the win. Gregg Berhalter’s side displayed arguably their best performance of the year. The US are unbeaten in 24 consecutive matches played at home and their high pressure system has been effective lately. Meanwhile in their last nine games across all competitions, the Americans have only conceded two goals in the opening half while scoring eight times.

On the other hand, Uruguay are also in superb form, winning all their matches in 2022. Diego Alonso’s side secured qualification for the World Cup courtesy of a third place finish in the South American qualifiers, behind Brazil and Argentina. In the last outing against El Tri, Diego Alonso’s side were superb in every department. Matias Vecino opened the scoring in the first half before Edinson Cavani netted a second half brace to seal the win. Meanwhile La Celeste’s defence also stood firm, not allowing El Tri to create even a single clear-cut chance.

USA probable starting lineup: Turner, Yedlin, Zimmerman, Palmer-Brown, A Robinson, Aaronson, Adams, De La Torre, Weah, Arriola.

Uruguay probable starting lineup:  Rochet, Olivera, Coates, Godin, Suarez, Torreira, Rossi, Vecino, Valverde, Nunez, Cavani.
