Sunderland began their 2023-24 Championship season with back-to-back defeats against Ipswich Town and Preston North End. However, head coach Tony Mowbray managed to turn his side’s fortunes, helping them to stitch together a five game unbeaten run, recording four matches in the process. A remarkable 11 goals have been scored in their last three outings against Southampton (5-0), Queens Park Rangers (3-1) and Blackburn (3-1). The Rocker Men got the better of Rovers on Wednesday night courtesy of Jack Clarke’s brace and one goal from Dan Neil. Moreover, Mowbray will be more than pleased with the fact that eight different players have got on the scoresheet in just seven games so far.
Cardiff, on the other hand, have had a mixed second tier season so far, recording three wins, as many defeats and one draw from their opening seven league-games. The Bluebirds managed to pocket just a solitary point from their opening three Championship-games, but then got their acts together to record three wins from their last four league-matches. Erol Bulut’s side prevailed in a five-goal thriller against Coventry on Wednesday night thanks to goals from Dimitrios Goutas, Karlan Grant and Kion Etete. Cardiff now look a constant threat in attack, boasting the third-best offensive record in the second tier.
