Sheffield Wednesday will host Preston North End in an EFL Championship fixture at Hillsborough on Saturday. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 4-2 defeat away to Hull City last weekend, while the Invincibles got the better of Sunderland last time out. The victory helped the visitors to occupy eighth spot in the English second tier standings, with four points to their name from two games, while the Owls haven’t yet opened their account and are languishing at the 22nd position, with only Huddersfield Town and Middlesbrough behind them.

Sheffield Wednesday have not enjoyed a smooth start to life in the Championship after Xisco Munoz was appointed as the head coach, replacing Darren Moore who led the Owls to promotion through the League One playoffs last term. The boss’ first competitive game in charge of Owls came in their curtain-raiser against the newly relegated Southampton on August 5, and the South Yorkshire outfit lost the match despite the fact that Lee Gregory got on the scoresheet. Munoz’s side then hosted fourth-tier side Stockport County in the EFL Cup tie, and had to dig deep, prevailing 4-1 on penalties after both sides scored one goal each in the regulation time. Meanwhile, the Owls traveled to the MKM stadium on Saturday and yet again ended up on the losing side despite the fact that Juan Delgado and Michael Smith got on the scoresheet. Now, Sheffield Wednesday will be desperate to get their first points on board at Hillsborough.

Preston, on the other hand, have had a mixed season thus far, recording one win, a draw and a defeat from their opening three games across all competitions. The Lancashire side started off with a 1-1 league-draw away to Bristol City early in August , before suffering a surprise defeat against fourth-tier side Salford City in the EFL Cup, and then bounced back with a victory over Sunderland in the second tier last Saturday. The Invincibles opened the scoring through Will Keane’s 25th-minute effort, before Jack Clarke drew the Black Cats level from the penalty spot and Preston attacker Mads Frokjaer-Jensen netted the decisive goal on the hour mark. The victory had certainly enhanced Preston’s confidence ahead of their trip to Hillsborough and they will be aiming to secure back-to-back wins.
