Lionel Messi’s exit from Barcelona sent shockwave through the world of football. The Argentine, widely considered among the greatest to have played the game, agreed a new contract with his boyhood club. However, La Liga’s strict financial fair play (FFP) regulations meant signing the deal was not feasible. As things stand, Barcelona need to cut their wage bill to register any new signings. This could spell trouble for the club as things stand. They signed players in the summer but are now unable to register them. To make things worse, Sergio Aguero – who signed for the club on a free this summer – reportedly wants out.

The main reason for this is because Aguero wanted to play alongside Messi at club level. Indeed, Aguero was reportedly given assurances that Messi would sign a new deal.

Now, with Messi gone, Aguero too is reportedly seeking ways to leave the club already.

It might seem far fetched, given he only signed for the side this summer. However, there is precedence to such things happening in the past. And, in Aguero’s case, he is unregistered by the club due to their financial issues.

Multiple media reports suggest Aguero is speaking to his lawyers and asking them to find a way out of his contract.

What did Sergio Aguero say about Messi and his contract?

Aguero himself believed that Messi would be staying on at the club. Thus, his sudden departure comes as a massive shock to his teammate and friend.

“Of course I hope to play with Lionel,” Aguero said after being unveiled by Barcelona. “I know him so well, we’re good friends.

“What happens with Leo is a decision that he and the club will make. It is a pride to play with him. I’ve played with him in the national team.

“If he stays here, which I think he will, we will try to give our best for the club. I’ve spoken with Messi, I speak with him every day.

“But I can’t tell you what we talk about. The last message was that he congratulated me, but we continued to talk about other things, which I can’t share.”

Whether Aguero gets his wish for another move remains to be seen.
