Real Valladolid will host Sevilla in a La Liga fixture at Jose Zorrilla on Sunday. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 2-1 league-defeat away to Rayo Vallecano almost ten days ago, while Sevilla played out a 1-1 draw against Juventus in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final tie on Thursday night. As of now, Valladolid are languishing at the 16th spot in the Spanish top flight standings, having collected 35 points from 33 games, just a solitary point clear of the relegation zone, but have a game in hand over 18th-placed Getafe. The visitors, meanwhile, are sitting at the 11th position, with 44 points to their name, just four adrift of the top seven.

Real Valladolid suffered their 18th league-defeat of the season against Rayo last time out despite the fact that Sergio Leon got on the scoresheet. The result extended their losing streak to three games. Pucelanos have won 10 top tier games this term and their last success came against European challengers Girona last month thanks to Monchu’s lone goal in the first-half. The White and Violets have picked up a respectable 24 points in front of their own supporters this season, and will be looking to take advantage of the fact that Sevilla were in Turin for the Europa League action on Thursday evening.

Each of the last four meeting between these two sides have ended in a 1-1 draws. In the reverse fixture in August last year, Sevilla defender Karim Rekik canceled out Anaur’s opener to share the spoils at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. Los Nervionenses have come a long way since then and are presently just two wins away from securing their seventh Europa League title. Red-Whites looked to have secured a crucial away-win against Juventus in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final tie after taking the lead through Youssef En-Nesyri’s 26th-minute effort, but Federico Gatti netted a 97th-minute equalsier for the Italians in Turin. Prior to that, Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side secured their 12th top flight victory of the season against Espanyol (3-2) courtesy of goals from Bryan Gill, Lucas Ocampos and Pape Gueye. Meanwhile, Sevilla are unbeaten in their last five away-games across all competitions, while they have taken 19 points from their 16 league-games on the road this season.
