Two sides looking to get back to winning ways in the EFL championship will be up against each other on Tuesday as Plymouth Argyle play host to West Bromwich Albion at Home Park. Both clubs are heading into the match on the back of 2-0 defeats at the weekend, with the hosts losing out to Leeds United, while the Baggies were beaten by Southampton. The visitors, meanwhile, are sitting at the fifth position, with 52 points to their name from 32 league games, just a solitary point clear of sixth-placed Coventry City, who have played a game more.

Plymouth, started the year 2024 on a positive note, recording a six-game unbeaten run in all competitions, including victories against the likes of Sutton, Cardiff and Swansea. However, after the narrow 1-0 Championship victory over the Swans on February 3, the Pilgrims suffered back-to-back defeats against Leeds and Sunderland in the FA Cup and second tier respectively, before playing out a thrilling 2-2 league-draw with Coventry last week. On Saturday Ian Foster’s side suffered their 13th second tier defeat of the campaign courtesy of goals from Leeds attackers Wilfried Gnonto and Georginio Rutter.
West Brom, on the other hand, have been inconsistent in the last couple of weeks, recording five wins, one draw and four defeats from their previous ten games in all competitions. The Baggies have won 15 Championship games this season and their recent success came versus Cardiff City on February 13 thanks to two unanswered goals from Michael Johnston and Andreas Weimann. However, four days later, Carlos Coberan’s men lost out to third-placed Southampton courtesy of one effort each from Ryan Fraser and David Brooks. Meanwhile, West Brom have not lost to Plymouth in their last seven competitive clashes, while the most recent encounter in October last year ended in a goalless draw.
