A second half strike from Mason Greenwood helped Manchester United rescue a point after going behind a goal at Southampton in the Premier League. Fans expected the Red Devils to push on from that goal to find the winner, however, the second goal never arrived. One of the stars of the match, Paul Pogba, reckoned that “we deserved more” from the match. However, the Frenchman feels that after scoring the equaliser, Manchester United “lost control of the game a bit”, which ultimately prevented them from getting the crucial second goal. “I think we deserved more, but you have to show more also on the pitch,” he told MUTV post-match.

“After the goal we scored we dropped a little bit, we lost control of the game a bit and that’s why I think we didn’t get the second goal. I think we dropped a few points today, we get one point, but we stay focused. Obviously, we’re happy we didn’t lose and we get this point with positivity, but we know this game, I think at the end of the season those two points are going to be very important. So we didn’t lose, we got one point and the next game away we know that those points will be very important for us and we don’t want to give them away.”

Paul Pogba’s impressive streak continues

The French World Cup winner also set a new record during his lively performance at St. Mary’s. After providing the crucial pass for Greenwood to score the equaliser, Pogba recorded his fifth assist of the campaign, thereby becoming the first player in Premier League history to do so in the opening two matches of a single season.

Speaking about his current form, he added: “I think I’m good, I’m good. The team, we all good. Training well, we came back very focused as always and like I said I always give my best on the pitch and give my heart to help my team-mates. So we need to keep it up, we keep improving and I wanted to win today – that’s why I’m disappointed with the result.”

As a result of the draw at Saints, United have now matched Arsenal’s top-flight record of 27 games unbeaten away from home. “It’s always great, but I prefer to win the league and not have the record,” insisted Pogba. “It’s good, it’s positive, next time what we want to have a record of is winning away – that would be the best and not draw when we know we can win these games, the same [with a] clean sheet. We learn from that, stay positive and we go again.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Paul Pogba

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer asserted that Paul Pogba is determined to win with Manchester United and is making an impression on and off the pitch.  Operating in a relatively free role but primarily on the left side of midfield, Pogba has been one of the stand-out players in the opening two games for United.

“He’s been very good,” Ole told reporters in his post-match press conference at St. Mary’s. “Paul has come in, bright with his own personality, he’s worked hard over the summer. He’s lean and he’s enjoying himself.

“We’ve seen that Paul wants to contribute. Of course you [reporters] don’t see him in the dressing room or in training, but he’s really determined and he shows his winning mentality and I’m very impressed with him.”
