Preston North End will be looking to extend their unbeaten run in the EFL Championship to seven games when they travel to New York Stadium on Tuesday to take on Rotherham United. Both sides are heading into the match on the back of contrasting results this weekend, with the hosts suffering a 2-0 defeat away to Birmingham, while Preston got the better of Cardiff City 2-0. The visitors are currently occupying 12th spot in the English second tier standings, having collected 50 points from 36 games, seven adrift of the top-six. Rotherham, meanwhile, are languishing at the 20th position, with 40 points to their name, eight clear of the relegation zone.

Rotherham lost to Birmingham on Saturday courtesy of first-half efforts from Reda Khadra and Kevin Long at the St. Andrew’s. Prior to that, the Millers defeated Queens Park Rangers, thanks to Jordan Hugill’s brace and a late effort by Hakeem Odoiffin. It was their ninth league-win of the season. Meanwhile, Matthew Taylor’s side have lost just one of their last five second tier fixtures on home turf, while winning three of those. The Millers were promoted from League One last season, so avoiding relegation back to the third tier is their main goal this term.
Preston, on the other hand, are the in-form team entering this match, having gone unbeaten in their last six matches in the Championship. Last time out, Ryan Lowe’s side got the better of Cardiff, courtesy of Thomas Cannon’s 68th-minute effort and Ched Evans’ strike, four minutes into the injury time. The Lillywhites, who finished 13th in the Championship last term, are currently seven points adrift of playoff spot, and will be hoping to make a late promotion push. Meanwhile Preston have collected eight points from their last four matches away from home.
Rotherham’s injury list consists of Domingos Quina, Grant Hall, Sean Morrison and Ben Wiles. Washington might lead the line, with Hugill and Ogbene in support. As for Preston, defender Andrew Hughes and Emil Eiis Jakobsen are sidelined with injuries, while the rest of the squad is reportedly fit and ready to go. Cannon and Evans might continue to form the attacking-duo, with Fernandez and Potts occupying the flanks.
Rotherham United Probable Lineups: Johansson, Harding, Peltier, Humphreys, Hjelde, Coventry, Lindsay, Fosu, Hugill, Washington, Ogbene
Preston North End Probable Lineups: Woodman, Storey, Diaby, Cunningham, Potts, Woodburn, Whiteman, Johnson, Fernandez, Evans, Cannon
