Manchester United will be keen to maintain the positive feeling around the club when they host West Ham United in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Wednesday. The Red Devils will be brimming with confidence after winning the EFL Cup final on Sunday against Newcastle United. The 2-0 triumph as resulted in Erik ten Hag winning his first trophy at Old Trafford. It also ends Man United’s six-year long wait for silverware after last winning a trophy in 2017 – the Europa League under then manager Jose Mourinho.

The poor start to the season has now become a distant memory for Manchester United supporters. The mood has been positive around the Old Trafford for sometime now and it reached new heights this past week. After overcoming Spanish giants Barcelona in a two-legged knockout tie in the Europa League, Man United ended their long wait for a silverware at the weekend. With the club not far away from leaders Arsenal in the Premier League table, ten Hag would very much love to keep their unlikely quadruple hopes alive.

However, West Ham United will not be an easy opponent for the Red Devils. This fixture will see a return for David Moyes to Old Trafford. They are fresh from thumping Nottingham Forest 4-0 at the weekend. However, West Ham are still not clear of the relegation zone, hence their priority would be the league over the FA Cup. Thereby, Moyes could give rest to some of his key players for this game in order to keep them fresh for the weekend game. Overall, West Ham are placed 16th in the table and have 23 points from 24 games, while Manchester United are sitting third with 49 points from 24 matches.
