Erling Haaland, Manchester City’s star striker missed the club’s training session on Thursday. The 22-year-old, who scored eight goals in just two games against RB Leipzig and Burnley was in outstanding form going into the international break. But he was forced to leave the Norway team earlier this month before of games against Spain and Georgia in the Euro 2024 qualifying round after suffering a groin injury in the FA Cup victory against Burnley.

Apart from the very important match against Arsenal, Manchester City’s home match against Liverpool on Saturday is probably their toughest remaining match, thus they cannot afford to be without their goal-scoring machine from Norway. Haaland has scored an incredible 43 goals for club and country so far this season, making him an invaluable member of Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Norwegian Football Team’s doctor Ola Sand made a statement where he said, “We hoped that this was just a familiarity that would carry over to Saturday, but after doing tests and examinations yesterday it became clear that he will not make it to the games against Spain and Georgia. It is better that he receives medical follow-up at the club.”

Haaland was recovering in Barcelona

Erling’s father Alfie Haaland told TV2 earlier this week, “Manchester City has a partnership with a hospital in Barcelona. He has been there for further checks and treatment. Now he has been here [in Marbella] for a couple of days with the physio from the club. So he gets good follow-up. They can gamble on it, but if he doesn’t get proper training with the team, then he won’t play. It is about how he responds to treatment in the next few days. He needs a lot of care.”

Another star player of Manchester City, Phil Foden is set to miss the match against Liverpool after the club confirmed that he had to undergo a surgery for appendicitis. Sources speculate that Foden will be out for at least three to four weeks but this was not confirmed by the club. Ederson, who missed out on Brazil’s match against Morocco because of illness was present during the training.

On the other side, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool has concerns whether Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Thiago Alcantara will be available or not. It might be too soon for Thiago but Luis Diaz could feature after his knee injury against Arsenal which ruled him out since October 2022. Manchester City will look to reduce their gap to Arsenal while Liverpool will look to get into the top four as they are seven points behind 4th place Tottenham Hotspur with two games in hand.
