EFL Championship leaders Burnley will be aiming to get one step closer to promotion, when they host relegation battlers Huddersfield Town on Saturday. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw against Millwall on Tuesday night, while Huddersfield got the better of Birmingham City 2-1 last Saturday. Despite the win, the visitors are still languishing at the 22nd spot in the English second tier standings, having collected just 31 points from 32 games, four points adrift of safety.The Clarets, meanwhile, have played a game extra, and are occupying top spot in the table, with  73 points to their name, 12 clear of the chasing pack.

Burnley have not been at their best in their last three outings, having pocketed just five points from the nine available, which isn’t great considering the high standard set by the club. Last time out, Vincent Kompany’s side shared the spoils away to Millwall, despite taking the lead through Ashley Barnes’ 51st-minute effort. Prior to that, the Clarets edged past Luton Town, thanks to Barnes’ lone goal from the penalty spot, 12 minutes from time. It was their 21st league-win of the season, which is three more than second-placed Sheffield United, who have the second-best win-record in the second tier this season. Burnley are on a 13-match unbeaten run in the Championship and they are in a comfortable position to progress to the Premier League as Championship winners, unless there is a drastic decline in form. 

Huddersfield Town, on the other hand, are fighting for survival. After a seven game winless run in the Championship, the Terriers finally secured all three points against Birmingham last Saturday. Although Troy Beeney gave an early lead to the Blues, Huddersfield fought back to secure the win courtesy of goals from Joseph Hungbo and Jaheim Headley. It was their eighth league-win of the season. Meanwhile, it was the first win for new manager Neil Warnock and that too in his first game in charge of the club. With some in-form teams next on their schedule, the 74-year-old tactician has a tough task in hand.

Probable Lineups

Burnley defenders Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Jordan Byer are sidelined with injuries, while Benson Manuel and Jay Rodriguez are close to making their return after recovering from injuries. Nathan Tella might lead the line, with Johann Gudnundsson and Zaroury occupying the flanks. As for Huddersfield, Warnock may not make too many changes to the side that defeated Birmingham last time out. Ward and Hungbo might partner up front, while right-back Matthew Lowton is ineligible for Saturday’s game.
