The Greens suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat away to Hapoel Jerusalem last weekend, while the hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw at Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Maccabi Haifa will be looking to get back to winning ways in the Israeli Premier League when they travel to Yud-Alef Stadium on Sunday to take on MS Ashdod. As of now, Maccabi Haifa are occupying top spot in the top spot in the Israeli top flight standings, having collected 72 points from 31 games, just four clear of the chasing pack, while the Dolphins are sitting four places behind them, separated by 32 points.

Maccabi Haifa suffered only their fifth league-defeat of the season against Hapoel Jerusalem last Saturday despite taking the lead through Omer Atzili’s 68th minute effort. It was the 29 year-old Israeli footballer’s 20th league-goal of the season and he is currently sitting at the summit of the top scorers list. Meanwhile, the defeat at Hapoel Jerusalem ended the Greens’s six-game unbeaten streak, that included five wins. The Greens from the Carmel have recorded 23 league-wins this term and their latest success came against Maccabi Netanya (4-1) on April 8 thanks to Nassim Ouammou’s own goal and and one goal each from Atzili, Dia Saba and Mohammad Abu Fani.
Ashdod, on the other hand, shared the spoils against Maccabi Tel Aviv last Saturday despite taking the lead through Elton Accolaste’s 72nd-minute penalty-kick. The result ended their two-game losing streak. The Dolphins have won 10 top flight matches this season and their latest success came against Maccabi Netanya (3-2) at the start of this month courtesy of goals from Abdul Mugees, Nenad Cvetkovic and Yaakov Berihon.
