Chelsea football club will embark on a new journey under the management of Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine coach already has plenty of Premier League experience, having coached Southampton and most notably Tottenham Hotspur in the past. It was during his time with Spurs he attained global fame after taking the club to unprecedented heights. Those experiences will come in handy when he takes the hot seat at Stamford Bridge.

However, Chelsea will be heading into this season on the back of enduring miserable 2022-23 campaign that saw them finish outside the top half of the table. Hence, Mauricio Pochettino and his staff have a lot to do this time around to bring back the glory days. Chelsea’s first match of the new Premier League season will be a home game against Liverpool. He was asked about how will he be feeling sitting in the home dugout for the first time.

“It’s going to be exciting but while it’s close, it’s also still far away. First, we need to meet the players, start work, then the tour in America, which is going to be unbelievable to meet all the fans. We will be ready for the first game against Liverpool – and it is going to be so exciting to have the first Premier League game at Stamford Bridge. We will face a team that’s very good in Liverpool, I know very well from the past. Now it’s important to visualise ourselves at Stamford Bridge. We know very well the stadium and we know with the fans we will create a good atmosphere,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s website.

What are Pochettino’s objectives?

Pochettino then spoke about his objectives for the new season with the Blues. “The objective is to win because football is about winning. We will have good times, create good relationships, have a nice environment and relationship with people, but the most important thing in the end is to win. If you win, it helps develop all the other things. Football is about results, how you achieve that is different because we are people that care about the way we achieve the results,” he added.

“But in the end, we want to win, be competitive, be animals that want to compete every week and in every game. But we need to translate before on the training ground and to train in this way. We need to be really tough to try to create that mentality and the feeling that we can beat anyone.”

The former Paris Saint-Germain manager also had a message for the supporters. “I’ve already had some contact with fans on the street here in London and in Barcelona where I was. People are really excited about the future of the club, and we are excited too. What we can promise is to work hard and defend this shirt until the end. We are going to try do everything for them to feel proud and to show that we really, really care. That is what we can promise,” he explained.
