Mason Mount is on the lips of every Manchester United supporter after the club announced his arrival from fellow Premier League rivals Chelsea. The talented Englishman has been a regular at Stamford Bridge and the English national team. He has already won quite a few major trophies, including the 2021 Champions League title with the Blues. With age on his side, the 24-year-old can only get better with time.

This is an exciting bit of business for Manchester United. Mount’s versatility will allow manager Erik ten Hag to play him in a deeper or an attacking role in the coming season. Besides, Mount’s tireless work rate will also benefit the manager in implementing his pressing style of football. A lot of questions were already asked by supporters and pundits on where Mount will fit into ten Hag’s system. The Englishman has responded to them now.

Where does Mason Mount fit in?

“I’ve always seen myself as a midfielder, a number eight that can obviously get forward, attack, try and score goals, create goals, but also be able to do the other side as well and defend and help the team when we’re under pressure. And that’s obviously a massive focus of mine, being able to come here and help the boys in that situation. And I know what I can bring to this team. And now it’s about going and doing it on the pitch. And as I said before, I know the team, I know the players that we have in this squad and what we’re capable of doing and achieving. So yeah, hugely exciting for me and I can’t wait to meet all the boys and get going,” he told the club media.

At the age of 24, Mount has already won some big trophies at Chelsea. It is something he would like to continue at Old Trafford too. “Yeah. I think it’s very important and I know exactly what this club is all about and it’s about winning trophies and that’s exactly what I’m bringing into it as well. I’m hoping we can achieve that, being confident in that. I know I’m still young, but when you get that taste of winning trophies, you want it straight away. I am so eager and determined to be able to do that here,” he added.

Mount also spoke about how the experience will be to play at Old Trafford wearing the home jersey after experiencing the same multiple times as an away player in the past. “Yeah, I’ve had the experience of playing there as an away team and it’s so tough. You’re not just playing against the team, you’re playing against the fans as well, and they’re always behind the team and singing the songs and it’s, it’s a theatre to come and play. It’s amazing, you look forward to it every time but now obviously putting the home kit on and I can’t wait to walk out there. Those Champions League nights are going to be special and now it’s the focus on doing well and I’m really enjoying it at the same time,” he elaborated.
