Manchester United supporters have been treated to an early signing in the summer transfer window with the arrival of Mason Mount from Chelsea. It was a surprise transfer in the eyes of many. Mount gone through various levels at Stamford Bridge and has been at the club from a very young age. Hence, it was surprising to see him make the switch to another Premier League outfit and Chelsea’s direct rival for top four places in Man United.

The supporters of Manchester United were able to catch their new signing, Mason Mount, in action during the 2-0 win over Leeds United in the pre-season opener in Oslo. He showed glimpses of his ability in that game, as the fans would expect to see more from him in coming matches. In a recent interview, former United striker Andy Cole spoke about Mount and what to expect from him.

“Fingers crossed he can have a good first season. He had a tough end to his Chelsea career, really tough. Coming into Manchester United, I think he’s put himself under a little bit of added pressure by taking the number seven shirt. But fair play to him, he obviously believes in himself, and I hope it works out for him,” Cole was quoted as saying by the club’s website.

What Andy Cole expects from Mason Mount?

Andy Cole believes Mount’s energy in the middle of the park will be clearly visible for everyone to see. “He [Ten Hag] sees something in him that he likes. He sees something that makes him think ‘I can work with that’. I’m hoping Mount can bring a little something to Manchester United; more energy in the midfield area naturally because I think that’s what his game is based on, getting around the football pitch and things like that,” he explained.

Shifting the attention to the win over Leeds United, Cole was happy with how the youngsters performed in the second half. “I enjoyed the second half with the kids playing and looking to implement the manager’s plan. It was nice to see their energy and see them trying to impress the manager, that was really good for me,” he elaborated.

The former United striker was particularly pleased with two players. Noam Emeran, who scored the opener and assisted the second, and Kobbie Mainoo caught his attention. “The boy who got the first goal, Emeran. His energy, the way he got the ball and ran at people. He was just positive, mentally. In the first half, the young central midfield player [Kobbie Mainoo] was very good,” he stated.

He added: “I was speaking to someone who said if he hadn’t been injured, he might have played a few games at the back end of last season. I was looking at him the other day and I was thinking to myself, ‘I can see why’. He looked a really good player. These kids are playing like they’ve been there a long time, and that’s what I enjoyed [in the Leeds game] as well. I could sit here and say that the future is bright, but you never really know where these kids are going to end up. But what they showed on Wednesday was a big, big positive.”
