Moreover, the Red Devils ended their six year trophy drought by winning the EFL Cup title, courtesy of defeating Newcastle United in the showdown at Wembley Stadium, and reached the final of the FA Cup but lost out to arch rivals Manchester City. The Dutchman’s first season at the helm will no doubt go down as a success. Meanwhile, the club has already made their marquee signing in the form of Englishman Mason Mount and Andre Onana could be the next through the door.
Leeds, in contrast ended their campaign on a disastrous note, not tasting victory in their last nine Premier League games, while losing seven matches in the period. Not even survival specialist Sam Allardyce could save the Whites’ top flight bacon, as their fate was sealed in a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the season. Leeds are now back in the second tier after spending three season’s in the top flight and will be hoping start their preparations for the new season on a positive note. Meanwhile, the Whites will also tackle Monaco and hearts this month before their quest for redemption begins against Cardiff City on August 5.
