Young Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho is one of the players to keep an eye out for at the club. The 19-year-old winger has already become an important part of the club’s first-team team setup. He often comes as a substitute and sometimes starts the games too. What makes Garnacho special is his ability to run at defenders fearlessly. He ca  n cut inside and take a shot or go on the outside and provide a cutback for players in the box.

Alejandro Garnacho’s performances have reached another level under Erik ten Hag. He predominantly starts on the left flank for Manchester United. His promising performances towards the end of the last Premier League campaign and the pre-season had earned him a starting opportunity in the opening games. However, the youngster was not able to reach his full potential in those fixtures. But lately, Garnacho has found his feet and even opened the scoring during the 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

Erik ten Hag on Alejandro Garnacho

Manager Erik ten Hag gave an honest assessment of the youngster’s campaign so far. “You have seen in the start of the season, we played him, then his contribution was not good enough. But he had also then some good actions. You see always that he always is attracting the game even when he is not playing that well. And he has to learn, ‘When I do my job in defending, I will always have my moment.’ And he will always be decisive, because he has great qualities,” he was quoted as saying on the club’s website after the mid-week game.

Further explaining where Garnacho needs to improve, ten Hag said, “As well, it’s not only off the ball, no. But also I want to see, like today, he’s entering the box, he was on the right spot to finish. But I think it’s quite normal, for a player of his age, that there is space for a lot of improvement. I think everyone likes him, the fans like him, the team like him, I like him, but also we have to demand him and we have to push him, because he can act on a very high level but he has to show it every day.”

Besides, ten Hag also spoke about the 3-0 win over Palace and gave his assessment of the match. “Oh, it’s a good night, as you said. And I think we played quite well and dominated the game. So that was what we were looking for. But I also said disappointment and frustration [from the losses]. But the mood is then dropping. The spirit was always good, togetherness was always there and is there. And you could also see that today. And we make a step forward in Burnley, how we defend, how we do that, and togetherness today on the ball and we make another step. So still a lot to come, but we are making [progress] and we are moving forward,” he stated.
