Manchester City will host Atletico Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final first leg fixture at Etihad Stadium on Tuesday. Pep Guardiola’s side thrashed Sporting Lisbon 5-0 on aggregate to reach the last-8 stage while Atletico edged past Manchester United 2-1 on aggregate in the last-16. Goals from Bernardo Silva (2), Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling helped City to secure a dominant victory against the Portuguese outfit in the first leg in Lisbon and that was enough to put the tie to bed.

City are going into the match on the back of a 2-0 win over Burnley courtesy of goals from Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin de Bruyne on Saturday. The Premier League leaders are on a seven-game unbeaten run in all competitions and had won nine in a row at home before taking it easy against Sporting Lisbon.

Meanwhile Atletico had to overcome a touch challenge over the two legs from Manchester United to get this far. Diego Simone’s side were held to a 1-1 draw in the first leg fixture at Wanda Metropolitano before securing a 1-0 win at Old Trafford. Renan Lodi’s header was all that was required to make it through to the last-8.

As usual Simeone’s side produced a defensive masterclass to see off the former champions. Meanwhile Atletico are also having an impressive run of form in the La Liga, having won their last six games, a 4-1 win against Alaves on saturday is the latest one.

Probable Line-up

Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker will be suspended because of a three-match ban he received for an unnecessary red card he picked up against RB Leipzig in the group stage. To add to Guradiola’s defensive woes, Centre-back Ruben Dias is out with a hamstring injury. Rest of the squad is fit to start.  On the other hand, Atletico winger Yannick Carrasco is also serving a three-match ban and will not be available on Tuesday.

Manchester City possible line-up: Ederson, Cancelo, Laporte, stones, Zinchenko, Silva, Rodri, De Bruyne, Mahrez, foden Sterling

Atletico Madrid possible line-up: Oblak, Savic, Hermoso, Reinildo, llorente, De Paul, Kondongbia, koke, Lodi, Griezmann, Felix
