Luton Town’s dream summer has gotten better for one player – Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu – following his contract extension. He played an important role over the years to help the club climb the ladder in the English football pyramid. The midfielder was equally instrumental last season in helping Luton gain an unlikely promotion to the English top flight. With Premier League action set to take place at Kenilworth Road, the club supporters can brace themselves for an exciting new season.

Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu set to create history

On top of it, Luton Town have announced that midfielder Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu has signed a new deal, which could permanently hold him a place in history. Mpanzu is set to become the first player to play in all of England’s top five leagues with the same club. Later this November, he will complete his 10 years with the team. It is incredible to see how much the 29-year-old has achieved with Luton over the years, as he is set to be the first player to go from non-league football to Premier League with the same team.

The DR Congo international played his part in the Championship last season with the club, as they defeated Coventry City in penalties in the playoff final. “It feels good to be back. Obviously we ended the season very well with promotion but it’s good to be back and seeing all the boys. It’s been good to get some training under my belt and hopefully get some game time ready for the Premier League. My break has been good, I’ve been away visiting a few countries, explored and had a really good time. Had my rest and recovery and I’m ready to get going again,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s website.

‘It’s the only club I really know’

After labelling the club as his “second home,” Mpanzu is looking forward to life in the English top flight. “Luton has been my second home, it’s the only club I really know. We’ve been through some crazy experiences with ups and downs, a couple of losses like Blackpool in the League Two play-offs, the Championship play-off loss against Huddersfield Town. It was tough, but we’ve always come back, and we were glad to get over the line and look forward now to our first season in the Premier League,” he added.

For Mpanzu, it is all about self-belief, as he is keen to pay back the faith which the club has placed in him. “It’s about self-belief and to have confidence in yourself, with that confidence you can do anything in the world. There’s always going to be doubters and people that have their opinion, but I believe in myself and my ability. The club and the manager agree so I’ve got to repay the faith that they’ve put in me and keep trying to perform,” he elaborated.
