Gurkirat Singh, formerly a player of the Indian Arrows, has been signed by Mumbai City FC. The 18-year-old signed a three-year contract with the defending ISL League Shield Winners and Champions until May 2024, with an option to extend for another season. It is a big signing for the defending ISL champions as Gurkirat has been touted as one of the most promising talents to have emerged from the Indian National Team’s age-group teams. He was a key member of the India U-16 team that advanced to the AFC U16 Championship quarterfinals in 2018 and was the joint top-scorer at the 2019 SAFF U18 Championships, which was won by India.

Gurkirat, a product of the renowned Chandigarh Football Academy, is a highly versatile footballer who can play as both a left-back and a left-winger. Before joining the Islanders, the Punjab-born player spent three seasons in the I-League with the Indian Arrows. Gurkirat was one of the most consistent players for the AIFF’s developmental side in the 2020-21 season, appearing in 11 games and scoring one goal.

DREAM COME TRUE

“Joining a club of Mumbai City’s stature is a dream come true for any youngster and it is no different for me. I am aware of the opportunity that has been presented to me but I know nothing is a given – I have a lot to learn from my peers and seniors and I am prepared to work hard to try and make a difference for this ambitious Club and for our fans,” the young Indian footballer said after signing a deal with the ISL champions.

Mumbai City FC are the champions of the Indian Super League as they managed to do the domestic double last season. They finished top of the table in the league, earning them the ISL shield. They also won the playoff matches at the end of the league stages of the competition to lift the trophy. They are already a force to reckon with and the addition of Gurkirat to their squad will only make them better.
