A COVID-hit Hyderabad FC fell to a 3-0 loss in the hands of Jamshedpur FC on a tough night at Bambolim. An own goal from Chinglensana Konsham (5’) and goals from Peter Hartley (28’) and Daniel Chukwu (68’) decided the game on the night for the visitors. A fixture that was postponed from Round-12 of the Indian Super League came at the wrong time for Hyderabad FC, who had plenty of notable absentees due to COVID. Manolo Marquez was forced to make six changes while also naming a depleted bench with every player available from the squad, making it to the bench.
And it did not start well for HFC, as Jamshedpur capitalized on two set-piece situations, to go two-goals up in the first half hour. Peter Hartley was in the pick of the things, troubling Manolo’s men during corners and free-kicks all throughout the game.
Hyderabad did manage to find a footing and created a few chances of their own but Chukwu’s goal in the second half which should have been chalked off for offside, killed the game in the end.

Mobashir Rahman was sent off for a tussle with Akash Mishra in the 68th minute as Jamshedpur were reduced to 10-men but managed to keep away any HFC attacks from troubling TP Rehnesh. The likes of Javi Siverio, Mohammad Yasir, Souvik Chakrabarti and Aniket Jadhav had their moments but it was a night where not much went in favour of Hyderabad, who fell to their fourth loss of the current league season.
HFC moved off the top of the league table after more than a month and now have 35 points from 19 games. Jamshedpur, who still have two games to play, move to top with 37 points after tonight and seal their place in the semi-finals.
Manolo’s men are back in action when they take on Mumbai City FC in a 9:30pm kick-off in what will be their last league game of the season, at Fatorda on Saturday, March 5.
Elsewhere, Mumbai City FC will look to maintain their recent momentum when they take on against Kerala Blasters in the Indian Super League on Wednesday at the Tilak Maidan in Vasco. Speaking about the upcoming encounter, Mumbai City FC defender Rahul Bheke said that the team will focus on their own style of play against the Blasters.
“Kerala Blasters are a strong team, they have been in a good form, and no doubt, it’s going to be a competitive game tomorrow. However, we want to focus on ourselves, on our game. The priority will be to stick to our plans and stay true to our playing style and our philosophy. If we can do that, we know we can come away with the result we want,” Bheke said.
