ATK Mohun Bagan has completed the signing of goalkeeper Subrata Pal on loan from Hyderabad FC until the end of the 2021-22 Indian Super League season. The Mariners announced the singing of the 35-year-old Indian on Friday. The signing will add more experience to the Kolkata-based side. Subrata’s loan move marks his return to the club where he had begun his senior goalkeeping career 17 years ago (then known as Mohun Bagan).

Also known as the ‘Spiderman of India’, Subrata Pal brings with him immense ISL experience, having been in the league since its inception in 2014. He has played for Mumbai City FC, NorthEast United FC, Jamshedpur FC and Hyderabad FC in the ISL.

Subrata began his youth career with Tata Football Academy before moving to Mohun Bagan to start his senior stint. He was a member of the East Bengal squad during the 2007-2009 campaigns.

He then went on to play for a number of top Indian clubs and even played for Vestjaeland FC in Denmark in 2014, and after that he joined ISL side Mumbai City FC. Pal went on to make 95 ISL appearances.

However, Pal hasn’t started a single match for Hyderabad FC this season as he has been a backup for Laxmikant Kattimani. At ATKMB, he could be a backup for Amrinder singh, but because of a dip in form of the Indian international, the veteran could be called into action. Pal’s arrival will certainly add more competition in the goalkeeping department.

The seventh season of ISL hasn’t been great for ATKMB as they are languishing at the eighth spot in the points table with 16 points from 10 games, two points behind fourth-placed Mumbai City FC, but with two games in hand.

The Mariners had a tough start to the season under head coach Antonio Habas, but  new boss Juan Ferrando has managed to steady the ship as they are now unbeaten in six games. The team has also struggled with COVID-19 outbreak in their camp and multiple fixtures had to be postponed.

ATKMB will next face SC East Bengal in the Kolkata derby on Saturday.
