Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker has signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool on Wednesday. Alisson became the third member of Jurgen Klopp’s first-team squad to commit his future to the club in the last week. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Fabinho were the other two players. Speaking from the Reds’ pre-season base in Evian, Alisson told Liverpoolfc.com, “I think I didn’t waste too much time to think about that. It’s something we just built in those last three years, the confidence, the trust that I have in the club and the club has in myself.”

“Me and my family, we are really happy here. My kids are settled in England, in a different country, but they are growing up in that way. So we are really happy. I’m really glad that I can keep going on with my work here, doing a good job here. So, I’m really happy to make this decision – that is not hard for me.”

Following his move to Anfield from AS Roma in the summer of 2018, the Brazilian goalkeeper did not take much time to settle into the club’s system. He quickly established himself as one of the finest goalkeepers in Europe. He also played a key role in Liverpool winning the Premier League, Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup.

Alisson Becker: We have to give 100 per cent

Besides, Alisson Becker also won the Copa America with Brazil in 2019. He has also received many individual accolades, including being named the FIFA Best Men’s Goalkeeper two years ago. The 28-year-old has made 130 appearances for the Reds to date and kept 57 clean sheets. He memorably scored a goal to earn a crucial victory at West Bromwich Albion last season as Liverpool produced a late fight back to achieve Champions League qualification.

Alisson added, “We have to set goals and we have to set them high – winning everything that we are playing [for], the Champions League, Premier League, the cups, everything. I think we can start from there. But obviously winning depends on what we will put on the pitch, what we will give on the pitch and we have to give 100 per cent at least. If we can push harder, we will go.”

Alisson Becker then went on to speak about last season when Liverpool rallied from an improbable position to seal a Champions League spot amidst their injury concerns in defence. “There were a lot of things, a lot of injuries, bad moments for everybody. The world was in a more difficult place, now things are getting better hopefully. I think it was quite hard for everybody but I believe we dealt quite good with everything. We stayed together as one on the pitch, off the pitch,” he added.

“I lived something really hard in my life, the most difficult moment in my life, and I felt the love of everybody here at the club. Everybody on my side, I felt this and this kept me strong to keep on going, keep working hard, keep training, keep playing [at] a high level. I think the last 10 matches were really important for us to put our team back in the Champions League. In finishing third, it was not what we wanted in the beginning of the season, but in the end of the season I think it was a good result.”
