Gent will play host to West Ham United in the first leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League quarter-final tie at Ghelamco Arena on Thursday. The Hosts reached this stage of the competition courtesy of defeating Istanbul Basaksehir 5-2 in the two-legged last-16 tie, while the Hammers thrashed AEK Larnaca 6-0 on aggregate. Meanwhile, both side were involved in their respective league-fixtures last weekend, with the Buffalos playing out a 1-1 draw against Union SG in the Belgian Pro League, while West Ham secured a narrow 1-0 Premier League-win over Fulham.

Gent are certainly not among the biggest teams left in the tournament, but the Buffalos managed to thrash Istanbul Basaksehir 4-1 in the second leg of their last-16 tie a few weeks ago, thanks to Gift Orban’s hat-trick and one goal from Hugo Cuypers. Hein Vanhaezebrouck’s side have also recently strengthened their position on the domestic front, taking 13 points from five games to move to fourth spot in the Belgian top flight standings. On Saturday, the Buffalos came from behind to share the spoils against second-placed Union SG, courtesy of Cuypers’ 80th-minute equaliser from the penalty spot. Prior to that, Gent thrashed RFC Seraing 5-0 to register their 16th top flight victory of the season. Meanwhile, Gantoise are unbeaten in their last seven outings across all competitions, while winning seven of those matches.
West Ham, on the other hand, are having a tough league-season, having taken just 30 points from 29 games to be languishing at the 14th spot in the English top flight standings, just three clear of the relegation zone. On Saturday, the Hammers recorded only their eighth league-win of the season away to Fulham thanks to Harrison Reed’s own goal mid-way through the first half. Despite their struggles in the Premier League, David Moyes’ side have done well in the continental stage, having won each of their last 10 Europa Conference League-matches. The Hammers put four goals past Larnaca without reply in the second leg of their last-16 tie, thanks to Jarrod Bowen’s brace and one goal each from Gianluca Scamacca and Divin Mubama.
