Fulham have made a decent start to their 2023-24 campaign, recording four wins, two defeats and two draws from eight games across all competitions so far. After the 2-1 league-defeat to Manchester City at the start of last month, the Whites edged past Luton Town 1-0 and played out a goalless draw away to Crystal Palace. Nevertheless, the Lilywhites prevailed 2-1 over Norwich on Wednesday and booked their place in the last-16 stage of the EFL Cup. Marco Silva’s side took an early lead through Carlos Vinicius’s 12th-minute effort, before Alex Iwoby made the score 2-0 18 minutes from time. Although the Championship outfit pulled one back through Borja Sainz’s 75th-minute attempt, the Whites held on to the slender lead and secured the victory.
Chelsea, on the other hand, have registered just a solitary league-win this season and that was against newly promoted Luton Town on August 26 courtesy of Raheem Sterling’s brace and one goal from Nicolas Jackson. Although, Mauricio Pochettino’s side followed that with an EFL Cup second round success over lower division side AFC Wimbledon, they then went on a three game winless run in the league, losing two matches in the period. Meanwhile the Blues restored small slice of pride by progressing to the fourth round of the EFL Cup courtesy of securing a narrow win over Brighton on Wednesday. Jackson’s 50th-minute effort separated the two sides at Stamford Bridge and helped the London outfit secure their first victory in September.
