Fiorentina will be aiming to seal their place in the final of the Copa del Rey when they host Cremonese in the second leg of their semi-final tie at Stadio Artemio Franchi on Thursday night. The first leg at Giovanni Zini Stadium almost three weeks ago ended 2-0 in favour of Viola thanks to goals from Arthur Cabral and Nicolas Gonzalez. Meanwhile, both sides are heading into the match on the back of Serie A-defeats last weekend, with the hosts losing 3-2 away to Monza, while Cremonese were thrashed 3-0 at Udinese.

Fiorentina lost out to Monza last time out despite taking a 2-0 lead inside the opening 13 minutes through Kristian Kouame and Riccardo Saponara. It was their second-consecutive defeat and the result extended their winless run to three games across all competitions. Prior to their defeated to Lech Pozna in the second leg of their Europa Conference League quarter-final tie last week, Viola had went on a 14-game unbeaten run across all competitions, winning 11 in the process. Vincenzo Italiano’s side have been brilliant in cup competitions, having also reached the last four stage of Europa Conference League. Meanwhile, the impressive run of form also took them to the top half of the Italian top flight standings.
Cremonese, on the other hand, are languishing at the 19th spot in the Serie A standings, having collected 19 points from 31 games, eight points adrift of safety. The Tigers suffered their 18th league-defeat of the season against Udinese last weekend courtesy of first half efforts from Lazar Samardzic, Nehuen Perez and Isaac success. Prior to that, the Grey and Reds secured back-to-back wins against Sampdoria (3-2) and Empoli (1-0). Although Davide Ballardini’s side have struggled in the Italian top flight, they have been the surprise package in the Copa del Rey. But overturning a two goal deficit against Viola at Stadio Artemio Franchi would be a mammoth task for the Violins.
