Fenerbahce will host Dynamo Kiev in the opening group match of the 2022-23 Europa League campaign at Sukru Saracoglu on Thursday evening. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 2-0 win over Kayserispor in a Turkish top flight match last Saturday, while Dynamo Kiev suffered a 3-2 defeat at Zorya Luhansk in an Ukrainian Premier League fixture a day earlier. Fenerbahce got the better of Austria Wien in the Europa League playoff tie to secure a spot in the group stage, while the visitors lost their Champions League playoff tie to Benfica to drop down to the second tier of European football.

Fenerbahce, have made an impressive start to their 2022-23 Super Lig season, having won three of their opening five games to be sitting at the third position in the standings. In their recent match at home against Kayserispor, Joao Pedro opened the scoring before Josua King doubled the lead to secure all three points for the Yellow Canaries. It was Fenerbahce’s sixth consecutive victory across all competitions. Meanwhile, the Turkish outfit defeated Austria Wien 6-1 in the two-legged Europa League playoff tie to reach this far.
Dynamo Kiev, on the other hand, have lost their opening two league games to languish at the 15th spot in the Ukrainian Premier League standings. The Blue and whites were defeated 3-2 at the weekend when they faced Zorya, despite the fact that Vitaliy and Buyalskyi and Vladyslav Vanat got themselves on the scoresheet. Mircea Lucescu’s side had an opportunity to get into the Champions League, but were thrashed 5-0 on aggregate by Benfica in their playoff match.
Fenerbahce full-back Nazim Sangare is sidelined with cruciate ligament injury. Last game’s goal-scorers Pedro and King would partner up front with Alioski and Kadioglu occupying the flanks. As for Dynamo Kiev, Denys Popov is unavailable for Thursday’s game because of a shoulder injury. Vanat is expected to lead the line with Buyalskyi, Shepelev and Karavayev in support.
