The reverse fixture in December last year ending in a 1-1 draw after Joselu canceled out Marcos Alonso's opener at Camp Nou.
Barcelona travel to Cornella El-Prat on Sunday to take on Espanyol in the Barcelona derby knowing that a victory will seal the 2022-23 La Liga title. The visitors are currently occupying top spot in the Spanish top flight standings, having collected 82 points from 33 games, 11 points clear of second -placed Real Madrid, who have played a game more. Espanyol, meanwhile are languishing at the 19th position, with 31 points to their name, four adrift of the safe zone. Meanwhile, Blaugrana are heading into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 win over Osasuna almost ten days ago, while Espanyol suffered a 3-2 defeat against Sevilla.

Espanyol suffered their 16th league-defeat of the season against Sevilla last time out despite finding the back of the net twice through Karim Rekik’s own goal and Javi Puado’s 43rd-minute effort. Prior to that, Parakeets edged past Getafe thanks to Joselu’s lone goal from the penalty spot. It was their seventh top flight victory of the season. The White and Blues finished 14th in La Liga last season, but they are now facing the prospect dropping down to the Segunda division as they are four points shy of safety with five games remaining. After the match against Barcelona, Espanyol will take on Rayo Vallecano, Atletico Madrid, Valencia and Almeria in their remaining fixtures of the season.
Barcelona, on the other hand, will be crowned the champions of Spain on Sunday if they take all three points against Luis Garcia’s side. Blaugrana have had an excellent top flight campaign having recorded 26 wins, four draws and three defeats from 33 outings so far. Last time out, Xavi’s side got the better of Osasuna thanks to Jordi Alba’s lone goal five minutes from time. All three of their league-defeats have come on the road, but still Barca have the best away-record in La Liga this term, having taken 37 points from 16 games, winning 12 of those outings.
Sunday’s fixture will be the 216th Barcelona derby and unsurprisingly Blaugrana have prevailed 125 times, compared to just 44 victories for the White and Blues. Meanwhile, Espanyol have managed to earn points from their last two encounters against Barca, with the reverse fixture in December last year ending in a 1-1 draw after Joselu canceled out Marcos Alonso’s opener at Camp Nou. It was the 46th draw between these two clubs from Catalonia. Meanwhile, Parakeets’s last league-win over Barca came way back in 2009.
