Dundalk FC will host Shamrock Rovers in an Ireland Premier Division top-of-the-table clash at Oriel Park on Friday night. The home side are heading into the tie on the back of a 1-0 victory against St Patrick’s Athletic last time out, while the Shamrock Rovers were held to a goalless draw against Galway United in their previous match. The Shamrock Rovers comfortably sit at the summit of the standings with 42 points from 19 games, while their Friday’s opponents, are eight points behind them at the second spot.

Dundalk are undefeated in their last seven games, but their last defeat was against Shamrock, way back in April. But Stephen McDonnell’s side have been in superb form since then. In their last game against St Patrick’s Athletic, Daniel Kelly’s first-half goal was enough to separate the two sides and help Dundalk pocket all three points. It was Dundalk’s fourth consecutive victory. In the month of May, Dundalk registered four wins in five games, scoring nine times and conceding just four in that time period.
Rovers, on the other hand, won five of their last six league fixtures. In their last competitive match against Shelbourne on May 28, Richie Towell and Rory Gafney’s first-half goals helped Rovers take all three points. Prior to that, Rovers suffered only their third defeat of the season at Drogheda United. Ryan Brennan netted the lone goal of the match at United Park. Away from home is where Shamrock Rovers have suffered all three of their defeats so far.

Dundalk will have John Mountney back from injury while Daniel Williams has left the club following the end of his loan spell. Robbie Benson, Mark Connolly and Bradley are likely to get a place in the starting lineup. As for Rovers, Mandrou is back from suspension. Graham Burke and Rory Gaffney would be hoping to continue their latest goal-scoring form.
