Drogheda United secured all three points against St Patricks last time out thanks to Adam Foley’s 18th-minute opener and Darragh Markey’s dramatic winner four minutes into the injury time. It was the Drogs’ sixth league-win of the season and the result ended their two game losing run. The victory helped Drogheda to move to two points clear of the drop zone. However, with just ten points taken from a possible 30, Kevin Doherty’s men appear set for an intense relegation battle. Last season, Drogheda finished eighth in the Irish top division table, 12 points clear of the relegation zone.
Dundalk, on the other hand, are trailing the top three by just three points but are unlikely to win their 15th Irish top flight title as they are ten points behind leader Shamrock Rovers but with 15 league-games remaining the title is mathematically not of reach by any means. The Lilywhites came from behind to secure all three points against Cork City last time out courtesy of Ryan O’ Kane’s 44th-minute equaliser and John Martin’s winner five minutes from time. It was their ninth top flight victory of the campaign. Meanwhile, with two third-place finishes in the last three campaigns, the Railwaymen have definitely grown into one of the strongest teams in Ireland.
Drogheda United probable starting lineup: Wogan, Ahui, Adegboyega, Keeley, Weir, Brennan, Deegan, Markey, Foley, Rooney, Draper
Dundalk probable starting lineup: Shepperd, Davies, Boyle, Annesley, Leahy, Kelly, Sloggett, Yli-Kokko, O’Kane, Elliott, Hoban
