On the 14th of June, Real Madrid announced the signing of Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund on a six-year contract. The transfer fee, which was around €115 million, would become the highest-ever transfer fee paid for an English player. At just 19, the England international is part of the younger generation set to carry the torch for the Galacticos for the next couple of years.

Path To Stardom

In football, quality would always find a way to show itself despite age, as in the case of Bellingham. The English youngster made his senior debut for Birmingham City at just 16 years in the EFL championship. He was excellent at Birmingham, with his midfield dominance, displaying traits worthy of a world-class player. For this reason, Birmingham City retired his shirt number “22” after his departure.

It won’t have taken long for a player with such potential to draw interest from major European clubs. Every player’s dream is to play in the Champions League, and Dortmund was able to pull the youngster to Germany. Bellingham joined the German club for a reported fee of €25 million, making him the most expensive 17-year-old. The youngster further improved his skills while playing in Germany, showing his quality in the German Bundesliga and Champions League. Bellingham spent a total of three years at Dortmund before his subsequent move to Spain.

How Bellingham Fits Into The Madrid Team

The Real Madrid team is currently at a stage where the players are split into two age groups; the youngsters and those close to retirement. Jude Bellingham is a versatile and composed midfielder; he would slot in directly into the Madrid midfield trio. His box-to-box nature would make him very effective for the team and increase his scoring chances. Moreover, it is no hidden fact that Bellingham is a proven goal scorer, as it was noticeable during his goal-scoring exploits for Dortmund in the Champions League group stage.

Bellingham won’t have to do much defensive work in the Madrid team because there are quality defensive midfielders in Madrid to help. His main duty would be to dictate the pace of the midfield with his beautiful range of passing and ball control. In addition, his physicality and tenacity in winning back possession and thus breaking defensive lines makes him a well-rounded midfielder.

When it comes to his pairing options in the midfield, there is nothing short of quality in the Madrid squad. He has the German Toni Kroos and Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric for support. Apart from the midfield old guards, Bellingham would also be pairing up with some midfield youngsters in Tchouameni, Camavinga, Brahim Diaz, and Federico Valverde.

Real Madrid C.F Set For The Future

The addition of Bellingham further shows that the Los Blancos are building a team for the future, a team that will play together for years to come. Apart from the Bellingham signing, they have also added the names of some young quality players to their squad. Remember, in 2022, Real Madrid completed the signing of 16-year-old Brazilian, Endrick from Palmeiras. But according to the agreement he signed, he won’t be eligible to join the team until July 2024, when he turns 18. He stays at Palmeiras for the time being until he can join his fellow young players at the Bernabeu.

Even if you take away the new incoming young signings, the Real Madrid team already has a young squad from midfield to attack. So, with the departure of Benzema, all eyes point to Vinicius Junior to be the focal point of the attack, unless they manage a miracle and pull off the signing of Harry Kane from Tottenham. However, for now, the attack will be spearheaded by the two Brazilian youngsters; Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo.

For the midfield, there is an abundance of options, with the majority still very young. Federico Valverde, Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, and Brahim Diaz are all in their early twenties. Therefore, there is a lot to expect from this illustrious Madrid squad.
