Deportes progressed to the last-16 courtesy of a second-place finish in Group D, while the visitors cruised through as Group H winners.
Colombian outfit Deportes Tolima will host Brazilian side Flamengo in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores round of 16 fixture at Estadio Manuel Murillo Toro on Wednesday night. Both sides are heading into the tie on the back of victories in their respective domestic league games. The hosts got the better of Atletico Nacional 2-1 in a Categoría Primera A match on Sunday. Flamengo, on the other hand, thrashed America-MG 3-0 in a Brazilian League fixture on Saturday. Meanwhile in the continental competition, Deportes progressed to the last-16 courtesy of a second-place finish in Group D, while the visitors cruised through as Group H winners.

On Sunday, at home, Deportes took the lead inside the opening 18 minutes courtesy of Emmanuel Plivera’s own goal before Juan Fernando Caicedo doubled it in the 36th minute. The visitors pulled one back through Jarlan Berrera in the injury time. Meanwhile the Pijaos finished the match with 10-man as Daniel Torres received a red card in the 56th minute. Hernan Torres’ side are in pretty good form, having won four of their last six games across all competitions and they sit at the second spot in the Categoria Primera A table with 40 points, just two behind the leaders Millonarios.
Flamengo, on the other hand, were one of only three teams to make it through to the last-16 stage without losing a game, the other being River Plate and defending champions Palmeiras, and they dropped only two points during that process. However, Flamengo’s domestic form hasn’t been very great, losing five of their last seven league and Cup fixtures. Against America-MG, last time out, goals from Gabriel Barbosa, Giorgian de Arrascaeta and Marinho helped Flamengo earn three points. Dorival Junior’s side made it to the last-16 scoring two goals in six of their group matches and would be hoping to continue the juggernaut in Colombia.
