Meanwhile, Canada also made just one change from the team that lost 1-0 to Belgium on Wednesday, with John Herdman’s men switching to a 4-2-2 formation with David and Larin starting up front. Laryea, Miller, Vitoria, and Johnston were assigned to defense, while Davies and Buchannan played as wingbacks. Borjan played between the sticks, with Eustaquio and Hutchinson in the middle. Following a 1-0 loss to Belgium the previous time, Canada needed to win to qualify for the round of 16.

Andrej Kramaric’s brace gives Croatia two-goal lead

Canada got off to a sensational start as Buchanan whipped a good cross into the penalty area between two Croatian defenders as Alphonso Davies came running in to meet it sweet. The Bayern Munich star rose to the occasion, powering a header past Livakovic within 120 seconds to give Canada the lead. Kramaric then entered the penalty area, going past Miller and Laryea before whipping it into the net to give Croatia the equaliser, only to be called offside in the 26th minute. Perisic got himself into a dangerous situation but was dispossessed.

Croatia later showed a lot of promise and were putting on a passing show at the Khalifa, which created a lot of space for Andrej Kramaric to now score the equaliser for Croatia, who made it 1-1. Croatia took the lead 10 minutes after their equaliser, thanks to Marko Livaja’s goal just before halftime. The final nail in the coffin was Kramaric’s second goal of the night, which he fired into the bottom corner. Croatia scored their fourth goal after Orsic unselfishly squared the ball up to Lovro Majer, who made it four the Vatrenis.
