Chelsea will begin a new era under Mauricio Pochettino in the coming season. The Argentina has plenty of experience in the Premier League, having already coached teams like Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton in the past. It is with Spurs, he attained popularity, as many were thrilled to see the heights, he helped the club reach under his management. Besides, Pochettino’s style of football with Spurs was a joy to watch.

The fans of Chelsea will hope that he can translate the same at Stamford Bridge and help the Blues bounce back from last season’s disappointment when they finished outside the top half of the Premier League table. However, it will not be easy for Mauricio Pochettino. The Blues have been enduring a busy transfer window, with plenty of outgoings and some interesting names also being linked to join the club. Hence, it might take time for the manager to get his methods across to the players.

Mauricio Pochettino on next Chelsea captain

They also need a captain after the recent departure of full-back Cesar Azpilicueta. In his first press conference as Chelsea head coach, Pochettino, quoted by the club’s website, said, “To chose a captain, first of all we need to close the squad and then I need to get to know all the players to make a decision. I need to feel the players, feel their commitment, feel their character and personality. It’s one thing from the outside, another when you are working with them. But we have many players with experience and we will decide.”

With the start of the season little more than a month away, Pochettino underlined his targets. “My target is to win. Of course, it is to do a good job and play well, as that is our style and philosophy. If you do not win at a club like Chelsea, for sure you are going to struggle. It is so important to try to achieve difficult things, because in the Premier League is really tough, many teams want the same as us [trophies]. We need to bring players in that believe from day one that it is all about winning, being competitive and giving our best,” he explained.

The manager also spoke about the need to build a relationship with the club’s supporters. “We are already working really hard and then we need to translate this energy to our fans to create a togetherness. What I found from day one, the squad is not all the squad yet, but the players were very open and the attitude was opening. We are going to add more quality. I want to provide and give the people, who trust in me, everything that I can do. I know that I need to build a relationship with the fans. I am fully committed with Chelsea,” he added.
