EFL Championship leaders Leicester City will be looking to get back to winning ways when they travel to Cardiff City Stadium to lock horns against Cardiff City on Friday night. The Foxes are heading into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw away to their nearest challengers Ipswich Town on Boxing Day, while the hosts played out a 2-2 draw against Plymouth Argyle last time out. The visitors are comfortably sitting at the summit of the English second tier standings, having collected 59 points from 24 games, six clear of the chasing pack, while the Bluebirds are occupying 11th position, with 34 points to their name, just two adrift of the playoffs.

Following back-to-back defeats against the likes of Birmingham City and Hull City with an aggregate scoreline of 4-0, Cardiff have collected four points from their last two outings. The Bluebirds recorded their tenth Championship victory of the season against Sheffield Wednesday on December 23 thanks to Karlan Grant’s 74th-minute equalsier and Akin Famewo’s own goal two minutes from time. And then three days later, Erol Bulut’s side were forced to share the spoils against Plymouth at home despite scoring twice through Matt Butcher’s 31st-minute own goal and Grant’s effort two minutes into the second half. Meanwhile, Cardiff’s home-form hasn’t been great off late, taking just four points from a possible 15.
Leicester, on the other hand, would consider themselves unlucky not to have taken all three points away to Ipswich on Monday, having taken the lead through Stephy Mavididi’s 24th-minute opener. But the Tractor Boys leveled the score three minutes into the injury time thanks to Sam Morsy’s strike which took a double deflected off Ricardo Pereira and Jannik Vestergaard’s before going past Mads Hermansen in the visitors’ net. Although Enzo Maresca’s side’s five-game winning run was put to rest at East Anglia, Leicester’s unbeaten run has been extended to eight matches. The Foxes are now 11 points clear of third-placed Southampton.
